Sumaya Kazi delivered a great talk about the use of Social Media at Sun.
She described many different social media channels, such as wikis, forums, second life, facebook, youtube, twitter and their use by different groups at Sun.
She was very clear that Sun carefully chooses the channel and its use for a very specific business goal and then measures against it.
For the first time the CIOs/IT Executives meetup was held outside of the usual venue. This time our host was Cloudera.
Over 30 people from companies like Oracle, Microsoft, Facebook, NEC and many others showed up for the event. Christopher’s presentation has generated lots of great discussions. I hope to have a video of this talk posted shortly.

Some key points from this talk:
- train people in your company on how to use social media and allow them to blog, tweet, etc. once they finish the class;
- apply 80/20 rule when tweet;
- cross-reference all social media channels your company uses;
- read “Groundswell” !
- understand well your target market - what social media channels they use and how and then develop your strategies;
- if you decide to use social media/strategy consultants use the ones with enterprise experiences if you are with the enterprise!
